Ieri sera si sono tenute le premiazioni dei Billboard Music Awards 2021 e non sono mancate le sorprese. Come anticipato nei giorni scorsi, Drake porta a casa un riconoscimento come artista più rilevante degli ultimi dieci anni mentre, dopo le polemiche dei Grammy, The Weeknd incassa ben 10 premi.
The Weeknd ha vinto nelle categorie Top Artist, Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top R&B Artist, Top R&B Male Artist, Top R&B Album, Top Hot 100 Song, Top Radio Song e Top R&B Song. Dieci premi sui sedici per cui era candidato.
Anche Taylor Swift si conferma ancora una volta come artista donna più influente, aggiudicandosi il primo posto come Top Female Artist (battendo Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Dua Lipa e Megan Thee Stallion) e Top Billboard 200 Artist.
11 le nomination per Da Baby, che però vince solo nelle categorie Top Streaming Song e Best Rap Song assieme a Roddy Ricch per il brano “ROCKSTAR”. Per Pink arriva il premio alla carriera, mentre a Pop Smoke viene assegnato il primato come Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist e Top Rap Male Artist. Riservati a lui anche i riconoscimenti per il Top Billboard 200 Album e il Top Rap Album con il suo “Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon“. A discapito di tutto, per un momento brilla anche Kanye West che si conferma il migliore artista gospel e porta a casa il premio per la migliore canzone nella stessa categoria grazie al pezzo “Wash Us In The Blood” con Travis Scott.
Il protagonista per eccellenza, però, è stato Drake. Il rapper di “God’s Plan” detiene attualmente il titolo per il maggior numero di Billboard Music Awards vinti, 29 in totale, e ieri è stato ufficialmente incoronato artista del decennio. Dopo aver mostrato al pubblico un video in cui vengono riassunti tutti i successi ottenuti dall’artista durante la sua carriera, con la voce narrante di Lebron James che accompagna quella del rapper, Drizzy è salito sul palco del Microsoft Theater di Los Angeles per ritirare il suo premio accompagnato dal figlio Adonis. A spiegare, con emozione, il valore di questo premio è stato lo stesso Drake, che ha ringraziato per il riconoscimento con un discorso chiaro e umile.
Sono davvero consapevole della mia musica e, anche se faccio un buon lavoro, mi chiedo sempre come avrei potuto farlo meglio. Raramente celebro qualcosa e, per chiunque guardi tutto questo chiedendosi come sia successo, questa è davvero la risposta. So di aver passato una quantità incalcolabile di ore cercando di analizzare tutte le cose che ho sbagliato, ma stasera, per una volta, sono sicuro che abbiamo fatto qualcosa di giusto.
